A Change of Plan on the Road to Hastings

At AGB Removals, we know that even the most carefully arranged moves can change at the final moment. That was certainly the case when we were commissioned to relocate a client from Wolverhampton to Hastings. Originally booked as a straightforward A to B domestic removal, the plan seemed simple. Load in the West Midlands, travel south, unload at the new property and complete the move in one continuous operation.

However, just before moving day, the situation shifted.

The client informed us that renovation works at their new Hastings property were going to take longer than expected. Rather than move straight in, they decided they would prefer time to complete decorating and improvements before filling the house with furniture and boxes. This meant one crucial thing. They now required local storage near Hastings, and they needed it quickly.

Given that we are based in the West Midlands, this presented an immediate logistical challenge. While we can provide storage solutions within our own operating area, arranging secure facilities several hours away at short notice is not always straightforward. Nonetheless, our priority remained the same. Find a solution that protects the client’s belongings and keeps the move on track.

Rapid Coordination and a Local Solution

Time was of the essence. With vehicles scheduled and teams prepared, postponing the move entirely would have caused disruption and added cost. Instead, we began contacting trusted providers in the Hastings area to secure a reliable storage facility capable of accepting a full household load with minimal notice.

That is when we connected with Battle Storage.

From the first conversation, their professionalism and flexibility stood out. Despite the short notice, they were able to accommodate the client’s entire inventory, offering clean, secure storage space that could handle everything from large furniture pieces to boxed personal effects.

With that reassurance in place, we proceeded with the original loading schedule in Wolverhampton. Our team carefully packed and secured the household contents as planned. Larger furniture items were dismantled where necessary, wrapped thoroughly and positioned within our vehicles to prevent movement during transit. Fragile items were boxed with protective materials, and an updated inventory was created to reflect the new delivery arrangements.

Instead of heading directly to the client’s new home in Hastings, our drivers rerouted to Battle Storage’s facility. Upon arrival, their team was ready to receive the goods. Together, we checked items against the inventory and transferred everything into the allocated storage space.

The speed and efficiency of the handover meant there was no unnecessary delay. Within hours, what had initially felt like a complication had become a well managed interim solution.

Storage, Access and Final Delivery

One of the most important aspects of this arrangement was flexibility for the client. Renovation projects can be unpredictable. Timelines shift, contractors run over and unexpected issues arise. Battle Storage provided the client with ongoing access to their belongings, allowing them to retrieve items if required during the renovation period.

This level of accessibility proved invaluable. Rather than feeling cut off from their possessions, the client retained control while enjoying the freedom to complete works at their own pace. Their furniture, appliances and personal effects were stored securely, protected from dust and damage while the property improvements progressed.

Several weeks later, once the renovations were complete and the house was ready to be furnished, the final stage of the relocation began. A local removals company was contracted to handle the last mile delivery from storage to the property in Hastings.

By involving a local team for the final leg, the process became even more efficient. They were familiar with the area, understood local access routes and were able to position vehicles and unload with minimal disruption. Furniture was placed in the correct rooms, beds were reassembled and larger items carefully manoeuvred into position.

From what began as a simple direct move, the project had evolved into a three stage operation. Collection in Wolverhampton. Secure storage near Hastings. Final delivery once renovations were complete.

Despite the late change of plan, the move concluded smoothly. The client’s belongings travelled safely from the West Midlands to East Sussex, were stored securely at short notice and ultimately delivered into their refreshed home without issue.

For us at AGB Removals, this experience reinforced a valuable lesson. Flexibility and strong professional networks are essential in this industry. Plans may change, but with the right contacts and a proactive approach, solutions can be found quickly.

All in all, it was a successful move. What could have become a stressful complication instead became an example of effective collaboration and careful coordination.
